Menopause Training Matrix™ · for personal trainers and instructors
Work confidently with midlife women.
The Menopause Training Matrix™ is a menopause toolkit for fitness professionals, from four-time Educator of the Year Mish Wright. Recognise her symptoms, adapt her training and know when to refer, with 2 AUSactive CPDs when you finish.
Your gym already has a licence? Ask your manager for an invite.
Why it matters
She's already in your sessions.
Perimenopause usually starts in a woman's forties and can last for years. Hot flushes, joint pain, leaking, poor sleep and brain fog change how she trains, how she recovers and whether she keeps coming back. Few fitness qualifications cover it in any depth.
With MTM, you'll be able to:
Recognise her symptoms, and place them across the five MTM categories
Adapt a session, and her whole week, with GRACE Midlife Movement™
Know what to say, and the words to use when something needs a menopause-informed GP or pelvic health physio
Stay within your scope of practice, and feel confident about it
Keep her training with you through perimenopause, menopause and beyond
What's in the toolkit
Seven modules, and tools you keep using.
An Introduction, a module for each of the five MTM categories, and the GRACE Midlife Movement™ Beginner Toolkit for program design. Each has training videos, downloadable cheat sheets and a quiz. Do them in any order, so you start with what your clients need.
Body Shape & Metabolic Health
Cognitive Issues & Mental Health
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
Musculoskeletal Syndrome of Menopause (MSM)
Vasomotor & Sleep Dysregulation
The Menopause Symptom Sorter
Your client answers 30 questions on her own phone. You get a read-out: what to check first, where she sits across the five categories and a suggested week. Nothing she shares is stored on our servers.
Quick-reference pages
For each category: what to look for, what to say, the red flags and the key videos, ready before her next session.
Resources to share
Every download is labelled for you, for your client, or both, and you can email client handouts straight from the platform.
Scope of practice
Know where training stops.
The question trainers ask most is what they're allowed to say. The Menopause Training Matrix™ is clear about it, and the Sorter's read-out flags what to refer first, with the words to say it.
You can
Design, adapt and progress her exercise programming
Talk about menopause, her symptoms and how they affect training and recovery
Share the MTM resources marked for clients
Encourage her to raise something with her menopause-informed GP, and help her feel able to
You refer
Diagnosis of menopause, perimenopause or anything else
Any question about menopausal hormone therapy (MHT/HRT)
Medication, supplements and dosage
Symptoms that need assessment, such as unusual bleeding or new pain

Mish Wright is a four-time Educator of the Year (AUSactive 2021, 2024 and 2026, Exercise New Zealand 2023) and Fuel Woman of the Year 2024. She was one of the first in the fitness industry to write about menopause and exercise.

Questions trainers ask.
Is this a menopause course or a certification?
It's a toolkit. You work through the modules, then keep using the Menopause Symptom Sorter and the quick-reference pages with every client. When every module is complete you earn the MTM Practitioner Certificate, with 2 AUSactive CPDs. It's a fitness education credential, not a medical or clinical qualification.
How many CPD points do I get?
2 AUSactive CPDs, on the certificate that issues when every module is complete and every quiz passed. MTM is also registered for CPD with Exercise New Zealand. An optional in-person MTM workshop adds another 3 CPD points.
I'm not in Australia or New Zealand. Can I still claim CPD?
Registration in other countries is under way. Until then, you can apply to your own registration body with your certificate. The toolkit itself works anywhere, and the Menopause Symptom Sorter shows support lines for your country.
What can a personal trainer say about HRT?
Nothing that's advice. Any question about menopausal hormone therapy (MHT/HRT), whether to start, stop or change it, goes to her doctor. The Menopause Training Matrix™ gives you the words to refer her with confidence, so the conversation builds trust instead of ending it.
How long does it take?
There's no fixed time. It's 100% online and self-paced, so you learn around your sessions, and you can do the modules in any order, starting with what your clients need most.
Do I need personal experience of menopause?
No. The toolkit is built on education, not personal experience. Trainers of any age or gender learn how symptoms, energy and recovery affect training, and how to adjust for the woman in front of them.
What happens after the first 12 months?
The modules, downloads and your certificate stay yours, with no end date. To keep using the Menopause Symptom Sorter and its quick-reference pages with clients, take out an annual subscription for $99.
My gym already has an Organisation Licence.
Then you don't need to buy anything. Ask your manager for an invite, and you'll get the full toolkit on your gym's licence. Any certificate you earn is still yours.
